Film cameras

Old cameras intrigue me. I look at them and wonder how did photographers do it? How did they restrain themselves from taking 1,000 pictures every time they took out their camera? Now a days we can take as many pictures as we want look at them on a camera screen or computer screen then delete all the ones that we don't like. We are very spoiled if you ask me. Film photographers had to know their art very well. I'm sure they messed up but they had to learn from it or else they would be wasting to much film. They learned how to use a dark room (Walgreen's hasn't been around for that long). They probably developed every picture they took. I'm sure they worried that they didn't take enough or messed up on a major picture. When they were done developing they could hold every picture they took. I envy that. They would take 50 pictures, develop them and then they could hold all of them. Now we take 500 pictures maybe print out 5 then basically never see them again. This saddens me. Someday I will learn to be a film photographer. Everything will not be automatic but manual. It will be real no photoshop no fixed lighting. Real. Someday I will do this......

Fog

What a beautiful morning it was that Friday. The sun was just rising. Everything was frosty.  Fog curled around the trees and our house.  Everything was quiet and beautiful. I was in awe of God that morning. Amazed at how his creation is so beautiful. God is the best artist of all.

Portrait Shoot: Sarah

As I was looking through my pictures a week ago I realized that I haven't had a photo shoot with Sarah since well over three years ago. So we scheduled a time and place. The nice thing about taking your siblings photos is you know their personality very well. You know their likes and dislikes.  In a way you know what kind of pictures they would want. Sometimes that can be difficult with people you have known for a short time. It is also easy for another reason. I didn't have to drive anywhere!
One of the things that everyone should know about Sarah is that she loves horses. There is a difference between 'liking' horses and 'loving' horses. If you like someone you wouldn't generally be mean to them right? But if you love someone you may need to correct them in some way. That is what Sarah does with horses. She corrects them in a nice way (or harsher if it is needed). I seriously think that one day she could become the horse whisperer.
There are a few things that you need to know about photographing a horse. The horses ears need to be forward. If they are back it looks like they are mad at you.  But keeping them forward can be a maddening process. In a way it is very similar to keeping a baby looking at you. I was jumping and clapping and basically doing anything that would get her attention. I even had the cat by my feet in hopes that she would look at it and perk up. Sarah is my assistant but unfortunately she was in the pictures and couldn't really help.
In the end after all the jumping and clapping I think that we got quite a few good ones.

(See what I mean? The ears can change the entire picture.)

Nebraska in the fall

I advise you if you would like to go on a trip in late October/early November go to Nebraska.  Some people may think of Nebraska as a somewhat boring state with open land everywhere. Well the open land part it true but that doesn't mean it is not an exciting place to be. Think about it. Warmer temps then Minnesota, fall colors that haven't blown away yet and foot ball! (I won't continue on the football part because I could possibly rant about that). But the colors are beautiful! I think I saw more red and yellow trees in the few days I was there then I saw in the entire month of October.
Since you probably didn't go to Nebraska this fall I will show you just a small portion of God's amazing beauty through pictures (Which really don't do them justice).

Senior pictures: Me!

As I progress into my senior year many people have asked me who will be taking my senior pictures.  My answer? I will be!  Well not really I will pose myself and provide the camera and my awesome sister Sarah would take them for me.  (Also my cousin Shelbi took some for me because I really wanted some with my camera in them.)
After about 4 different photo shoots (it's a lot harder than you would think to get pictures you would like) we finally got some really nice ones. Thanks Sarah and Shelbi for taking these pictures for me!

A year.....

A year.... so many things happen in a year.
New friends come, old friends leave.
Things break, and things are fixed.
Things are bought, things are sold.
       Spring, summer, fall and winter.
All have passed in a year.
